Apply the corrections
We applied the corrections Vincent told us, starting for the ones which needed to be corrected in the animation.
Animation
Anto created more crowd, deleted the elements that did not look good in the shots, and improved the animation of the knife. Also, we added a real cat in order to make it look better.
Cameras
Then, we repeated the playblast of all those scenes with corrections in the animation. Then, we edited the camera in those shots in which we had mistakes in the camera movements. Finally, we decided to playblast more shots in order to have a wider library to choose for the editing.
Editing
I did the editing based in the editing of the last output. I changed the speed of some shots, I replaced the corrected ones, I added some shots and I deleted some others.
Finally, Adrian refined the whole editing, specially the jump part.
Finally, we exported the second version of the blocking animation which can be found in Ftrack.
Feedback
For this second version of the movie, Vincent told us that he could see the improvement and developement of the work, and he gave us more guidelines in order to improve our piece. ç
- MOOD SHOTS: Slow down the shots, take more time to set up the mood.
- Try to center the points of attention.
- JEFFERSON SHOTS:
- Map the tuna can.
- Animate Jefferson hiding the tuna can.
- Place Antagonist 01 on the left side of the frame.
- SHOT 06: Try a shot over the shoulder, maintaining the golden ratio.
- SHOOTING SHOTS:
- Clean the foreground.
- JUMP SHOTS:
- Add some shots to show the audience that Jefferson was forced to jump, try to create a feeling of claustrophobia.
- Do a better use of the crowd, showing that the do not let him space.
- Keep the tension with the gun – Jefferson jumps too early.
- Try to add a shot of the crowd looking over their heads towards Jefferson
- Try more camera angles and more brave shots.
- Try to do an editing each of only this scene, and create different versions to see which ones work better.
- LANDING SHOTS:
- It would be convenient to add a shot of his boots to understand they are broken, and then go back to show his face to understand he is worried about it. We can also do boots to face and then boots again.
- CHASING SHOT:
- Re-align the skater’s path.
- We could do a shot using the camera as the skater eyes, followed by a zoom in pr close up showing Jefferson surprise of being attacked.
- The skater is always really close to Jefferson during the chasing. We should keep the distance, showing that the skater does not have any rush because he will catch him either way.
- To highlight this, we could add a cenital shot observing how Jefferson is crawling and the other is just walking.
- END SHOT
- The skater need to look more menacing and dangerous.
- Animate Jefferson opening the Tuna Can.
- Make Jefferson fall on the ground and then reveal the cat.
- Make obvious the moral dilemma.
- Maybe we should discuss a better ending
- Slow Jefferson dowm.
- Reference the scene with other movies and copy their actions.
- The skater need to be way more dangerous and menacing
- Create a new storyboard the final scene
- Discuss a better ending
- Make obvious a moral dilemma
- Jefferson needs to go slower
- Reference the scene with movies and possibly copying.
Organization of the workflow
In order not to miss any correction, I did a document showcasing each shot Vincent wanting us to correct and adding the description of that we needed to correct.
Then, I classified each correction if it were a camera, animation or editing correction, assigning one color to each.
Finally, I added the option in the document to write if the correction was finished or not, and if so, writing down the neew name of the output file.
This is the document we used to work with.
The third floor corrections 21.02.2019
Having this document made much easier the organization of the workflow, since we could easily say which correction we wanted to make.
We were always working together at the same time, so we ended up helping eaxch other with everything, but in general aspects, until the final submissions we divided the work like this:
- Animation Anto did the major part of the corrections of the animation, getting the help of Zinab for some scenes
- Cameras: Adrian and me made the cameras. We divided the action in different parts and each one took care of the cameras of each part.
- Mood: Adrian
- Jefferson: Adrian
- Shooting: Carol
- Jump: Carol
- Landing: Carol
- Impact: Adrian
- Chasing: Adrian
- End: Carol
- Editing: As I was doing the editing from the beggining, I continued up being engaged with it, but from this point also adrian started to make some corrections in my editing, which make our video look much better. From now on, we used to focus on the editing of the parts we exported, ensambling them as we thought when doing the cameras.
Rigs
After the corrections, we were given some rigs, which are detailed characters that cna be animated in Maya.
We had a session in which we learned the basics to animate the rigs. For the next session, we were asked to do a short animation of he scene using the riggs, adding more details and expression to the actions.
