Collaborative Project | Introduction, goals and brainstorming

Introduction

This project is a collaborative project built among Adrian Gongora and me, Carola Martos. We are going to build together the idea and go through all the pre production, production and post-production process, asking for external collaborations for another project requirements.

In this project, we will like to reflect and develop our  VFX skills, working on different techniques and connecting them with a concept and a reason.

Therefore, we will star by defining the message we want to transmit, then build the story, then translate it into image metaphors, then sort out how is the best way to create them (shooting and editing methods) and finally we will start making the production process.

Idea

The idea of our video is to build a non-narrative, experimental film which showcases the existential path which develops through the London experience. Some of the rough concepts we want to reflect about are:

Goals

  • How the rhythm and the mood of the city makes the people develop since they frist arrive until they settle.
  • Showcase a common existential crisis for the people who emigrate, with the perspective of moving to London specifically
  • Offer a positive conclusion, a solution or a switch of perspective to the problems which are present in this journey.

Form

We would like to tell the story in a  non-literal way, take those complex feelings and translate them into a simpler form. In this way, we should be able to:

  • Encompass more topics in less content, since we leave a wide interpretation to the audience.
  • Enable multiple readings, and catch the interest of a wider audience, including a less critic audience.
  • Let the audiovisual symbolism be easily understood, when being introduced in a simpler context.

Features to reflect

Brainstorming

Scene Ideas

Break up scene

  • Concept: Wasting of the person due to the rhythm of London.
  • Idea: In a busy area of London, the main characters stands and move in the middle of the crowd. Gradually, we see how the crowd starts to move faster, while the main character moves slower. We see then how the character starts to decompose and broke into pieces, as a porcelain puppet.

Dancing scene

  • Concept: The identity of London, which is made from the mix and coexistence of many different identities.
  • Idea: One person dances in a white environment. Suddenly, the person turns into an outline drawing and when it goes back to reality it becomes another person (different races, genre and ages). Then , each person draws in the background in different ways (pretending they are painting, splashing themselves against the wall, etc) one building, forming the landscape of London in different drawing styles.

Labyrinth scene

  • Concept: The city of London as a labyrinth which encloses and absorbs the people who live in. Idea os dystopia.
  • Idea: Shoot London buildings and change the textures of them to create a dark environment, then, distort the streets of London and rebuild the streets as a labyrinth which makes the character get lost and afraid of the city, which ends up eating him or her.
