Collaborative Unit | The Third Floor | Session 5

Rigs

We started working on the rigs to make the rigged animation.

Anto and Zinab worked in the rigged animation, and when they finished animating the beginning, Adrian and me exported the cameras.

I did the editing based in the one we had before, but since we had a lot of camera movements and the rigs did not move fluently, it joust looked really strange, and it was impossible to perceive the whole message of storytelling.

Therefore, we decided to refine the blocking animation.

Apply corrections

  • Editing: The first thing we corrected was the editing. I did all the corrections which were only refered to editing in order to keep the Premiere file ready in case someone of the group wanted to work with that.
  • Animation: Anto did the corrections in the animation, getting also help from Adrian in some shots, as the knife, since Anto was also working on the rigged animation.
  • Cameras: Adrian and me worked both in the cameras, each one focusing in the part of the editing that we chose in the last session.
  • Editing: Finally, I added to the old editing the new cameras, finishing the piece after Adrian’s and Anto approval.

Finally, the output was ready for the last submission.

The third version of the blocking animation can be found in Ftrack

Corrections

After seeing our work, Vincent gave us some news minor corrections for our final submission.

  • We should focus more on the storytelling and make sure everything in the story is understood.
  • SHOT 02: keep it longer. Carry on the camera movement, it is good that we introduce the street.
  • SHOT 04: Put in the board the same tuna can as Jefferson has, with a cross. Then, we will be able to understand they are fighting against the object Jefferson has.
  • SHOT 04: Redo the scene taking out the camera falling in the background.
  • SHOT 07 AND 08: Slow own both shots, Jefferson is walking too fast.
  • SHOT 13 (after the gun is shown): turn Jefferson to the right instead of the left, since all the directions of the movie go to the right.
  • SHOT 15: Make Jefferson stay on the right of the frame, and the antagonist on the left.
  • SHOT 12: Do not turn the camera in a circle when the antagonist is pointing at him, show the gun directly.
  • Add a fire effect to the gun.
  • Add some suffering then Jefferson boots get broken.
  • After the landing, the close up shot is too long.
  • Adjust the animation of the knife since it disappear.
  • Add some blood effects around the knife
  • If we use the shot in the eyes of Jefferson (Shot 17), we should make it higher, so we understand we are seeing through his eyes and we want to show the little street.
  • Make the animation of him taking out the knife.
  • Have the close up of the cat as the last shot.
  • Readjust the timing.
  • Focus more on cinematography, storytelling and timing for our last version
  • Add some credits at the end,
  • Do the credits.
  • Add the UAL and The Third Floor logos, in order to be able to publish the video.

Vincent highlighted that the most important thing was to fix the knife.
